Kia ora koutou Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,
As we draw towards the conclusion of Week 4 of our first term, there is so much to be thankful for in our school community.
After watching our new Year 7 students participate in our BigFoot adventure day this week, I want to highly commend our local primary schools in our Kahui AKO. Most of our Year 7 students have come from Albany, Greenhithe, Upper Harbour, Coatesville, and Ridgeview primary schools. It is evident that our students have been equipped for their pathway to Junior High School. Moving forward into a bigger school setting can be daunting. It is clear that our new students have many of the self management competencies that have enabled them to transition with ease. We are grateful to be working with these schools, and Albany Senior High School, to prepare our students for a changing world.
I would like to also acknowledge our exceptional teachers and support staff. Starting the school year under strict health and safety conditions is a challenge, even under normal circumstances prior to the pandemic. We have proudly seen firsthand the capacity of our staff to hold a steadfast spirit of hope, positivity and grit through this time. Although we are not completely sure about what’s in front of us, our staff are determined to make everyday a rich opportunity for your child’s learning.
Now we have shifted to Phase 3 of the Omicron response, there is a change to the definition of close contacts and changes to testing, including increased access and use of rapid antigen tests (RATs). We will update our school information for your reference at the start of next week.
Your children are thriving here at AJHS. As parents, you should be very proud, and indeed, we are very proud of you all. Have a fantastic weekend whanau and take care.
