About Me

Originally from the UK, I have lived in NZ for fifteen years and have a teenage daughter who keeps me on my toes! On the weekend you will find me making the most of the beautiful NZ outdoors. As a Year 7 Homeroom teacher I work hard to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel comfortable to take risks, challenge themselves and grow. I am passionate about building learning-focused relationships which recognise strengths, supporting students to connect to, reflect on and take ownership of their learning.

About Me

I am currently teaching Year 8 homeroom in my first full teaching role. I am passionate about mentoring and guiding students to reach their full potential. I am also passionate about Health, PE and sports and I like to incorporate values from these areas into my teaching. I have lived in Auckland for 5 years after growing up in Australia, and I am really enjoying the multicultural aspects that Auckland has to offer.

About Me

I have had a long and happy association with AJHS as both a homeroom teacher and a relief teacher dating back to when the school opened in 2005. My background is in both teaching and tourism, having trained as a Primary School teacher specialising in the Year 7 and 8 area and also working as a tour guide for over 30 years in both New Zealand and Europe. I love to see the students of AJHS take up the incredible opportunities that are presented to them during their four years here.

About Me

Kia ora, ko Helen Haine tōku ingoa. AJHS became my teaching home in 2015. I love coaching learners to achieve, find their individual passions and enjoy the journey. If I’m not in my homeroom you’ll probably find me in the Science labs, the library, backstage at our productions, engaged in collaborative learning conversations with colleagues, or in search of my next coffee. Proudly straddling the line between geek and nerd, I find joy in knowing stuff about stuff. I teach Science and Forensics at AJHS. I worked in the mental health sector for many years before working for the Department of Corrections. My curriculum specialities are Psychology and Biology; I am privately pursuing my personal interest in the neurobiology and philosophy of consciousness plus machine intelligence (A.I.).
