Kia ora koutou parents, caregivers, whānau and students,
As we conclude our mid way point in the term, we are full of gratitude for the shared commitment we are experiencing to lower the risk of Omicron in our school community. We are maintaining an average of 75% student attendance, with only a handful of staff absent each day. We are aware our conditions could change at any time, but for now, well done everyone on our united effort to mitigate the impact of Omicron at AJHS.
This week we have seen students outside throughout the school day, engaging in whanau class activities, physical education, lunchtime sport, a sport academy trip for beach safety to Orewa Beach, and active preparations for our Year 8 camp in weeks 8 and 9 of this term. Many of the opportunities offered to our students are optional and extra to their learning. As a ‘School of Opportunities’ we are so thankful we can provide these experiences to further your child’s development. Thank you for your support.
The Ministry of Health indicates that we are moving towards the peak of Omicron. We need to keep persevering with our mask wearing, hygiene practices and height of awareness. When I think of some of the international events happening at the moment, it helps to bring our situation into perspective. All the same, the influence of the pandemic has brought many impacting outcomes to our students and families around wellbeing, progress and welfare. Take care whanau.
If your child is unwell but it is not COVID-19 related, please email absences@ajhs.school.nz.
If your child has tested positive for COVID-19, please email our school nurse brigid.lamont@ajhs.school.nz and follow the Ministry of Health guidelines.
Go into your weekend well, and please contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support and cooperation. Take care whānau.
