Learning through covid lockdown

As you are all fully aware, we have found ourselves back at Alert Level 4 due to covid being found in our community. We hope you are all doing well in your bubbles and are managing to adapt to the restrictions in place.

At Alert Level 4 students do not attend school, so we have moved to teaching your children remotely at home. With such short notice we weren’t able to consult with students who are without devices to support distance learning. An email was sent to all students and parents to gain your feedback on this. If at any stage you have concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to raise them with your child’s teachers.

We want to reassure you that you and your child’s emotional wellbeing is the most important thing for us at this time. We are very aware that parents and other siblings will have pressures from their own workplaces and schools that will need to take priority before you are able to support your child’s learning. We deeply appreciate your support.

What we would like you to please reinforce with your child, is that we uphold similar values that we expect your child to use in school, such as being an active learner, maintaining routines, punctuality and engaging in online class time with an appropriate manner. Our learning activities are prepared for engaging our students in learning that is enjoyable and achievable.

Students will be required to log into Google Classroom to continue with their learning from home. Students know how to log in using their email and password. The students are expected to maintain a high standard of behaviour whilst interacting online. If students are unable to log in, please email the teacher directly. We have confidence in our students that they will transition to online learning with enthusiasm and ease.

Our teaching timetable can be found here.

AJHS continues to support our students, families and staff through this covid journey. If at any time your children need support, our pastoral care team is available.

Take care and keep safe.

Goodbye and thank you to Dr Stephen Kendall-Jones

We were very disappointed to have to cancel our special assembly to farewell our Principal, Dr Stephen Kendall Jones. Stephen has recorded his farewell message here.

We thank him for his considerable service and wish him all the very best.

Communications to parents will be sent out next week regarding interim leadership and recruitment.
