Welcome

Kia ora koutou, nau mai haere mai. Welcome to Albany Junior High School.

Albany Junior High School (AJHS) is an extremely proud school that focuses on actively encouraging and supporting students to navigate their curriculum with confidence and resilience. Students are given the opportunity to experience and excel in academic, cultural and sporting activities, while building lasting friendships and developing an enquiring mind.

As a school we are unique. Founded in 2005, we were the first purpose-built junior high school in New Zealand, created to cater for the needs of the adolescent learner. Our learning practices, supported by a strong curriculum, are relevant to the needs of our students from years 7 to 10. Our large school community is made up of 4 Whanau. They are the cornerstones of our school. Each Whanau is like a small school, offering a sense of belonging and providing pastoral support for our students.

Our school ethos is underpinned by our shared values and expectations. Students are nurtured to respect others, respect themselves and respect their environment and community. These principles provide an identity of self-worth, helping them develop a partnership of learning and responsibility between their home and school community.

We endeavour to ensure our students move into senior school with a toolkit of skills, knowledge and dispositions that will enable them to be more confident in their choices. We welcome you to visit our school and look forward to sharing our learning journey with you and your whanau.

He waka eke noa, we are all in this together.
