Kia ora koutou parents, caregivers and students,

We hope you have all had a productive and enjoyable week. Amongst this changeable and colder weather, sickness and very busy days, it is hard sometimes to find the joy of daily life. As parents you are striving to lead and support your family whilst trying to learn to parent the themes that have impacted your children through our pandemic. We applaud you for your love and perseverance.

Although it is challenging to experience full normality with 2 years of lockdown disruption, we need to remind ourselves that all of our tamariki (students) have unlimited potential, and have the capabilities to be nurtured and guided to success. Success can look different for each student, as they are unique individuals who have their own awesome personality, brain, and therefore different skills, abilities and needs. Celebrating this is important.

Building on this understanding, an aim that we can all nurture in our tamariki is their dispositions. These are habits of mind and action. Positive dispositions are using manners, showing respect (courtesy), cooperating with others, independence, being a listener, giving support, wanting to communicate, building resilience, and being aware of the environment they are in to act accordingly. Dispositions have an impact on learning and progress, and are a rich influence on becoming responsible citizens. Together, let’s keep striving to foster these in our young people.

This week many of our sport teams are in semi-finals mode, and at this time of the year, our music tuition programme is well underway. We are very grateful to our sports and performing arts faculties for their tremendous work to provide these extra learning opportunities for our students.

This week we have seen a sudden rise in the number of teachers absent. This is due to diverse reasons. We have also experienced an increase of students bringing confectionery to school, and problematic behaviour during our school day. We are working very hard to establish positive themes at school amongst our students.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your ongoing support, and have an enjoyable weekend.

Take care whanau.
